Surrounded by the beautiful rapids of the River Raudanjoki, lush riverside forests and unspoilt nature, Vaattunki Wilderness Resort invites you to stay in one of the most picturesque places in Rovaniemi. A romantic atmosphere, the sounds of silence and good food make the resort the perfect place for those who want to enjoy pure nature and hunt for the Northern Lights, just 20 minutes by car from the centre of Rovaniemi and 15 minutes from the airport.

The main restaurant building, the riverside, the husky enclosure and the reindeer farm are all within walking distance of the panoramic cabins.

You can book one of our panoramic cabins (double or single). If the occupancy is 2 adults + child, the child sleeps in an extra bed. These cabins are made of local pine wood and represent modern Lappish architecture. Each cabin has a large panoramic window overlooking the peaceful forest, which you can admire from the comfort of your own bed.

Facilities: Kitchenette, single/double bed, toilet, bathroom, TV, microwave, fridge, kettle, hairdryer.

The resort's restaurant serves a variety of meals throughout the day, and the cosy lounge area with fireplace invites you to curl up with a good book and lose yourself in a world of your own. Half board is included (buffet breakfast and dinner).

When you need to relax after a day of great outdoor activities, the resort offers a sauna and hot tub by the river. Even if the current is too strong for swimming, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the river from the warmth of the hot tub (bookable on site, fee applies).

Winter clothing is available at the hotel.

5 km Husky Tour

Experience the thrill of leading your own team of huskies through the winter landscape! The husky musher will meet you at the resort reception and take you to the kennel where the Alaskan Huskies will be waiting for you. Before the safari begins, the husky musher will show you how to drive your own sled. Enjoy the surrounding nature and silence while the huskies take you on an unforgettable ride. After the husky ride, we return to the kennel to hear facts and stories about the huskies and enjoy hot drinks around the campfire.

What is included?

Visit to the husky kennel, 20-30 minutes husky sled ride over 5 km, 2 people per team, children in sled, hot drinks with biscuits, guided tour in English.

Please note:

The programme takes place in Rovaniemi at Vaattunki Wilderness Resort between 1 December and 31 March (weather permitting). You will receive information about the meeting place/time on arrival at the reception or at the Safartica office located at the resort. The safari starts when the group is dressed and ready to go.

Northern Lights Photo Tour

Dreaming of seeing the Northern Lights? Then it's time to hop on a bus and head to the areas with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights. With clear skies and a bit of luck, we could see them dancing in the sky! Along the way, the guide will take photos of us to keep as souvenirs and can give tips on night photography for those who bring their own cameras. In between, we'll enjoy hot drinks and gingerbread while we watch the sky.

What is included?
- Coach travel, approximately 150 km to the best Northern Lights spots, hot drinks with gingerbread biscuits, photography and access to photos via an online link, guided tour in English.

The Northern Lights are an unpredictable natural phenomenon and our evening safaris are designed to give you a chance to see them. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that they will appear.

Parents: Please consider whether this activity is suitable for your young children due to the outdoor nature and late hour.

You will be given details of the meeting place/time on arrival at reception or at the Safartica office located in the resort. The safari will start as soon as the group is dressed and ready to go.

*If the 5 km Husky Tour and/or Northern Lights Photo Tour is cancelled due to weather conditions, the Tour Operator will refund the cost of the tour on a pro rata basis after your trip.

For scheduled arrivals in the destination area from 04:00 in the morning, the hotel room is only available on the day of arrival from the official check-in time of the respective hotel. The official check-out time of the hotel on the day of departure must also be observed. This includes return flights until 3.00 a.m. on the following day. Early check-in or late check-out can be booked via our service team, subject to availability and for an additional charge.
